Hexagon acquires AGL and AGATEC
Hexagon AB has acquired the GAMFI group of companies, which includes AGL, AGATEC, and QBL, a German laser manufacturer.

Hexagon is a $1 billion+ group of measurement technology firms serving industry, government, survey, and construction. A smaller segment of business is in specialty polymers. A Swedish corporation, Hexagon has over 8,000 employees in 30 countries.

Hexagon’s goal is to be number one or number two in each market served, and will continue their successful multi-branding strategy in the new Precision Tool group,

With the GAMFI acquisition, this group now includes Leica, AGL, AGATEC, QBL, and Microfyn laser and machine display products.

Manufacturing, sales, and marketing of AGL products will continue at Jacksonville, AR. According to Hexagon’s president, AGL and the other GAMFI companies “will continue to operate largely as independent companies, and will continue to focus on servicing their brands.”

Rich D’Alessandro, vice president and general manager of AGL, sees it as a win-win situation for AGL and its dealers:

“Operating ‘glocally’ gives us the dual strengths of local service and expertise and global resources. The AGL factory will continue to offer personalized response and training, based on our 40 years in the North American laser market. As part of a multinational company, we’ll have access to more research, more products, and volume purchasing to keep us competitive in the global marketplace.”

In the future, AGL dealers will be offered additional products with the AGL brand name, to complement the AGL and AGATEC product lines now available.
